The Mayor’s Challenge

Covington, KY’s Mayor and City Commissioners join the national Jefferson Awards for Public Service in the belief that youth are making a difference in the community. This program is a collaborative program supported by the City of Covington, Covington Partners, Children, Inc and the Center for Great Neighborhoods.

In an effort to highlight students that demonstrate a positive impact locally or globally, the Mayor recognizes one exceptional service-learning project each month of the school year.

Each month teachers, students and community partners are invited to nominate students for leading an outstanding student service learning project that addresses a social issue or need in the community.

The Mayor’s Selection Committee is comprised of a group of residents, civic leaders and business representatives from across the community. They review the nominations and recommend an awardee to the Mayor.

The Jeffferson Awards for Public Service and Children, Inc. provide certificates and pins that the mayor presents to each student and teacher honoree.

Each month, the mayor either visits the students for a presentation at their school or recognizes the students at a public event such as the Commission meeting or a city celebration.
